Possible parasite issue? Swelling and skin problems in Candoia.

Kikai May 16, 2004 09:45 AM

Hi all. My Candoia has started presenting with a patch of skin that looks dry and the scales look smaller and discolored. He also seems to be slightly swelling in that area. He just shed (for the first time, I might add) and it's more noticeable after the shed. His shed was complete, so I don't think it's retained shed. He only eats live house geckos. Could this be due to a parasite load? The swelling seems to be in the area his gut would be in. He eats 1 house gecko every 3 weeks, and he's about 4-6 months old. All other housing specs are good. He has not had a fecal yet. He's active and seems to be OK otherwise. Any thoughts before I take him to the vet?

IT looks somewhat like a thermal burn. If he is not then I would think it is a fungal or bacterial infection and only a culture will tell you for sure which one.

But since it is near the gut area, you need to have it checked by a qualified vet. If either, it can move into the tissues and organs fairly fast, there is little between the skin and them

Thanks, Cheri. It doesn't have access to a heat source that could burn it. We've been treating it topically. I'll update if we pin down what exactly is going on with it.
