Started studying them, and every other animal, in college in 1992.

Graduated with a B.A. in Biology and got my first snakes in 1996. I've always been serious as far as learning about them, but I'm just now getting into some of the higher costing ones. Couldn't afford to before

I have kept some form of reptile since I was 8 years old and started catching lizards and torts when I lived in Turkiye. As far as the proper keeping and doing proper husbandry etc etc I have been actively keeping ball pythons and boa constrictors (and burmese pythons for a small stretch of it) since 1991/1992. I have in this stretch successfully bred the burmese pythons 3 years straight, but have yet to produce with ball pythons or boa constrictors. (which I hope to end that this coming season with boas, and the 05 season with ball pythons)

Let's see, I got my first snake (ball python) in '96 I think, and started getting more a few years later. This is my first year that I've seriously attempted breeding them though.

Liked snakes ever since I can remember. Got my first one when I was ten; black rat. Also around that time I found some eggs in a hollow tree branch and hatched out 5 green snakes. I had the black rat for 11 years. Went with me when I went to college and I also bought my first BP at this time. Kept him in the closet in my dorm. Stupid pet store WC and it died on me. Didnt eat for 11 months, finally ate, I was happy, died 2 weeks later. Live and Learn. After my black rat died I was snakeless for a few months. NC reptile show started and it lit a fire underneath me. I am up to 16 right now and Im hoping to get some corn eggs in a few weeks and with any luck ill have some BP and hognose eggs next year.

I've been interested in herps all my life. I've been in the hobby since 1991 starting with a green iguana. I got my first ball python in 1992. It's still a hobby but it's in danger of growig into a business.LOL

Caught my first snake 44 years ago! It was in a vacant lot next door. This garter snake used to come out from under a boulder to sun every morning. I would sneak up to the rock on a daily basis tring to capture him but he would always get under the rock before I caught him. One day I decided to sit quietly on the rock and wait for him to come out. He came out to sun and I jumped off the rock and caught him! I put my catch in a pickle jar and couldn't wait to tell my mother the great news! To my dismay, she took the snake out back and beat and stabbed it to death with a pitch fork! I think ever since then I have had a compassion for reptiles, especially the serpent clan. I lived at the swamp as a young boy and came home with muddy sneakers on a daily basis! I read all I could and was particularly facinated by the writings of Ditmars and Clifford H. Pope. Bill Haas has always been high on my idol list. Opened my first reptile buisness when I was still in High school back in 1973. That went over like a lead balloon back then! Who'd have ever figured that reptiles would have gotten as popular as they are today! The only wat to buy back then were to send for price list and rely on the dealers description of the animal. You know how that goes, what you visualized and what you received was most often a disappointment! Now that I gave you my whole life history, I'll stop! LOL

Memorable early herps was finding an eastern hognose in the back brush and hunting toads all summer for it.
My mom telling me that none of the snakes were coming in the house and one morning going out to find my couple of 'monster' huge garter snakes had given birth in their 1/4" hardware cloth in ground enclosure and my mom standing there, watching babies stream out through the wire and saying "And that is why they are NOT coming into the house." She didn't mind snakes, but she drew the line for the sake of my step dad's heart. The odd collection of toads that I kept that kids brought to me when they had been hit by the mower. I had a lot of 2 and 3 legged toads. The old milkhouse full of cages of mice and rats that I sold to local pet shops for a quarter each and 50cents each. Funny how rodent prices haven't risen the way snake's have!
Ahhhh, the days when EVERYTHING was WC and you dealt with nasty savage beasties because you were so fascinated by them.
Not as OLD as the 50s but hey.

Considering I'm only 26 this year not long! LOL, spent my summers catching and releasing frogs and toads at the local lakes. Heard rattlers but never managed to actually see them, probably a good thing in retrospect I was a curious kid. Got cornsnakes in 1999 and a Ball python in early 2000, she was a rescue and died a few month after I got her . My girls were born in fall 2000 adn raising triplets and taking care of the snakes was too much so the snakes had to go. Finally in 2003 I decided that I was ready to have more and now I'm up to 7 BP's soon to have a blood and my brother's blood lives here too cause he can't take it into my parents house!! LOL...... My daughters also love the snakes, raising future herpers!!
