What's up with the "green" headed geckos?

hill4803 May 16, 2004 10:48 AM

I took this pic outside this morning. The green is a little washed out. They have green right across the top of their head, over their eyes. None of my other geckos have this. I'm sure it has something to do with their eyes...anyone have other geckos showing this green look?

only one of mine has the green "eyeshadow" i like to call it
but it fades here's 2 pics of Yummy, the first when i first got him, at well an unknown age really, then most recently.

This is the recent pic you can see the pattern changes and how much he's grown :D

This is because their skin is thin and you can see the darkness from their eyeballs through the skin. similar to how you can see their organs through their stomach.

I can understand the idea of "thin skin"; however, none of my other geckos are showing this green or blue pattern. (As I stated in my original post!) My question has more to do with which geckos are showing this more. I have several morphs, including albino, that don't show the green or blue pattern.

Yah why green though, my other female never had any green. I bought mine at pet shop and only this one had bright green eyelids. What about blizzards and albinos too, they have black more than green

The thinner the individual animal's skin above it's eyes, the more color will be seen, and a different skin or eye color will create a different final color seen above its eyes.

Yeah I guess it just has to do with how dark the eyes are and how thin the skin is. I'm sure albinos don't have the green (obviously), because they have the redish eyes i think. All of mine have the blue-greenish coloring above their eyes.

If eyes are blue/black I would guess that geckos with yellow skin would make blue eyes give green (blue yellow=green) "eyeshadow." Geckos like blizzards with slightly blue tinted skin would make blue eyes darker so they'd show up black. Just a guess though since I have no clue what color the top of a leos eyeball is.
