Heating Question for new rack

nikojone May 16, 2004 11:45 AM

I am in the process of building a rack. The dimensions of each slot are going to be 24"D x 16"W x 6.25"H. This is also the dimension of the tub that will slide in (obviously a little bit smaller). Now, for my question...

I was planning on using Flexwatt to heat this rack (using belly heat). The problem is, since the rack is only 24" deep, would the 11" flexwatt be too large (heating almost half of the plastic tub)? What percentage of the plastic tubs should be heated using belly heat? Any recommendations? I was thinking about using the 3" Flexwatt, but then I think this would be much too small. I would really appreciate any opinions/recommendations!

I'm using same size tubs you are with 3" flexwatt connected to a dimmer switch. Dimmer is set at 50%, give or take. That maintains 90-92 degrees at the back of the tub. 3" flexwatt is plenty for that size tub.

I take it you mounted the 3" heat tape running from side to side? If so, how did you do it so that the wiring does not get in the way of the tub?

Or, did you still run the tape parallel with the tub (from front to back) with the wiring going out the back?

Routed 1/8'' grove, across the back of the shelf, used contact cement to secure the flexwatt, boxes never touch flexwatt or wires.
