I was told by my pet shop to provide a humid box and a water dish only large enough for drinking. No soaking because this could lead to body sores. Should I follow this advice ?

No, I disagree with this. I think a boa should have a water dish big enough to soak in. Usually they won't soak unless they are in shed or if they have mites. It will not lead to body sores. You will find that most pet stores know nothing about snakes, and you are much better coming to this forum for advice.

i do agree with matt. soaking will help with shedding and also can let you know quite quickly that you have an animal with mites. the body sore thing not true. keeping a boa too humid ie:cage too WET can lead to blisters in some cases, but by all means let'em soak if they want. just make sure you change the water often. as they are known and will deficate while soaking. and swimming in feces is NOT a good thing.
