New Beardy lover here!

wuffle_mama May 16, 2004 06:24 PM

Hi everyone! My name is Winter and I have 2 Bearded Dragons, Mr. Wuffles and Mrs. Wuffles, they are almost 5 years old. I'm a bit sad because I've read how they don't usually live past 5 years. Is that true? My husband and I love our lizards very much, they even sleep in our bed with us.....they are very spoiled and definatly don't think they're lizards!

I'm thrilled to have found this forum and hope to chat with everyone soon!

Hi Winter, welcome to the forums!

A healthy, well cared for beardie can live up to 10 years. Recently we had a member here with a 12 year old! I've heard breeding can shorten their lives a bit, but I don't know by how much.

If your two beardies are 5, healthy, and going strong, you probably have nothing to worry about. I know what you mean, you sure can get attached to them, they've got so much character!

Very Happy to have you all on the forum. I must say I love your name, Winter.

You will have to post pics of the happy spoiled couple, Mr & Mrs. Wuffles !

Anyway Yes, as Kephy said, they have been known to live alot longer.

I myself have a Beardie named Auggie, who will be 6 years old in August. So just continue to keep them healthy.

AND DON'T ROLL ON THEM IN BED !

Hope they live LONG, LONG lives. And again Welcome Aboard!

Thanks guys...thats good news about thier lifespan! We won't roll over on them...don't worry! We have heating pads on the tops of these big TV pillows and thats where they sleep. Occasionally they do like to climb down in the morning and snuggle up to my neck and the lovely sandpaper effect definately keeps one from sleeping!
