Aboreal or Not?

cnickell May 16, 2004 07:06 PM

I bought my little red tail boa 22" from PETCO about a month a go. for the first week she was all up in the branches and climbing on the vines i provided only coming down for water and then it was from up above. But recently the last three weeks she hasn't climbed at all instead just laying at the base of the branches. She is very active and crawls all arround the cage but has stopped using the branches and vines. Not sure what to make of it. Just thought i would kick it out to the group and get some thoughts. I have never owned a boa and thought this odd. She is still way more active than my first and most special snake a red blood python. also my ball wich spends more time climbing than my boa. all kept in seperate inclosures.

thanks for everything in advance

chris

hey chris, over the years i have provided some of my smaller boas branches inwhich to climb on too. i have found that most really arent big climbers ( i am talking red tails ) some of them would use them every now and again, but mostly not. if this is a display cage by all means provide a branch or two. it looks great for display purposes and if they do use it, it can provide some type of exercise for them as well.....and it just looks cool to see your snake climbing in the trees . lol
