juveniles digesting veggie matter?

lilbitlizz May 16, 2004 09:43 PM

Hey all,

I've recently gotten a veiled youngen' - well he's really a baby - and I've heard that the babies have trouble digesting vegetable matter. Is this true? I'm not sure of his age, but he's only about 3 or so inches long. I want to make sure he's getting a well-rounded diet, and he seems to be frightened by mealworms and waxworms, so all he's getting are young crickets dusted with chameleon vitamin dust. What do you guys think about adding some vegetables in the tank? If it's too soon, when do you think I should start adding them to see if he'll take it?

He won't even consider it food unless he catches it along with a cricket, and even then he might throw it up. Mealworms and waxworms should be avoided until he's about 3 months old, and some chams don't even accept them then (just keep trying). Your guy sounds to be around a month old more or less. Keep with crickets and the supplement. Dont' use the dust on every bug though, for a juvi it's a good idea to use it on 1/2 of all his food.

Good luck with your little guy!
