BIG OLD BROAD!!!

sea_in_the_city May 16, 2004 09:53 PM

Here's the pic I promised of my cow in ambanja clothing. She's 192 grams (before lunch). And the kicker is, she's still fairly skinny. You can see in her casque and her face where she still has room to fill in. She's plowing through 10-15 crickets a day. Everytime I walk onto the porch she comes down and sits by the food dish like "Where's my crickets man?" EVERYTIME she sees me. She's great! Thanks a bunch Shelly.

First off, let me say congrats on her! She's super size.
She is quite big, but I was looking at her hip and tail area and noticed quite a bit of bone showing in her hips. Her tail looked a bit emaciated. Are you sure she's getting enough to eat?
I'm not one to point the finger and say someone isn't doing a good job with their husbandry, don't get me wrong! Maybe the angle is wrong, I dunno, but she definitely looks a bit on the thin side. Perhaps she's gravid and you're trying to control the food intake.
Anyways, good luck with her!

Yeah, she's still skinny. I just got her 2 weeks ago. I'm really pleased with her demeaner and appetite. I'm trying to fatten her up some. The person she came from had been keeping her in a cage with other females, and she wasn't doing too well. She had removed her and put her in her own cage about 2-3 weeks before I got her and said she was doing much better. I'm not sure exactly how long she's been in captivity, but she seems to be doing really well now. Not to worry she'll probably be over 300 grams by the time I'm done with her. Thanks for the comments. Have a great day.

Nice looking animal and big for a female pardalis. How long have you had her? If she is eating that much and still remaining thin (tail area), you might want to consider having her checked for parasites. She's an impressive girl though.

Are you talking about that little wrinkle on her side? That's just loose skin from being underweight. It has no density. Just a skin "roll". But thanks for paying so close attention!

The below link shows what exactly I'm refering to. A nematode that size wouldn't have any density of much note. It just doesn't look like a fold from being thin or dehydrated. It looks like a nematode to me. Is this what you were referring to as well?

WOW! you really pay close attention, I looked at that photo and could not see a thing until you circled it. I have a question about those things... I have a WC chameleon that has one of those, I was told it was dead when I bought it. Do they really stay there the rest of the chameleons life even if they are dead?

Upon further inspection you appear to be correct. I haven't had those checked out actually. She has one on the other side as well. She also has a dark brown patch about the size of a dime on the other side too. Not raised, or tender, just coloration. I've heard of this, but can't recall what was said about it. What should I do about the worms? Are they detremental, or is it more stressful to do something about them? Thanks for your attention to detail.

They aren't detrimental under non stressful situations during a reptiles life. In captivity things are different. You can have them removed via an incision by a vet and it would have to be done for each one.
Oral meds are of no use.

They have to be removed via incisions where they appear. Oral meds are of no use.
In the wild they live with them but sickness brings on stress which eventually means a weak immune system which leads to death. In captivity they may or may not thrive. Too many variables such as housing, foot traffic, diet, temps, humidity, etc;

Only for about 2 weeks. I'm trying to make up for lost time with the food. I expect it will take a few months before she fills in entirely. She's come a long way though. I had a fecal done for her, and it came back negative. Just thin from being stressed for so long before I got her I guess. Thanks for the reply. Have a good day.
