Question for the cage experts...

athos_76 May 16, 2004 10:59 PM

At work we have some GE brand Flourescent black lights on clearance, and I was wondering if they would be okay for use in my cages as night lights.
I am replacing my night lamp in the new cage w/ a CHE and I still wanna be able to see my darling at night...

Any other options to this besides cutting a new hole in the cage??

Black lights are extremely irritating to the human eye. I don't know how reptiles are affected, but I wouldn't want to be in a cage with one on. How about just turning on a dimmed light to view (a 15 watt bulb on a dimmer is perfect) the animal, then turn it off when you're done?

I use black lights in cages of both my balls. They're an extra heat source and are on a thermastat but one's on most of the time. The balls do a lot of exploring at night so I don't think it's an issue.

Which are you using? Black heat lamps (incandescent) are fine. It is the "blacklights" (fluorescent bulbs) that I am referring to.
