Think about it....If given ANY snake will use one of some kind. They feel more secure.

Larger, adult burmese generally do not use or need hides. They seem to feel plenty secure being of adult size. My big female has a hide box (biggest cardbox box Ive ever seen) but *rarely* uses it. This applies to most of the larger animals. A baby or juvenile snake will require one or more to avoid stressing.
They are not necessary. I have 5 burms, 2 of which I raised from hatchlings. Neither one of them ever had hide boxes, they did not suffer at all. They grew, shed, pooped, just like a burm with a hide. I also found that they were NEVER agressive. I had one that struck at me once. That is it.
Do I find hides necessary, NO.

One way to approach the issue of whether or not to provide a hide container is to imagine how often you would expect to see as secretive an animal as a snake resting coiled up, exposed, without cover, in the wild.
