How often...............

SlipKorn May 16, 2004 11:59 PM

How often would you feed a pair of copperheads? I have one that is 41 inches and she eats one jumbo mouse a week. The other is about 20 inches and he eats 1 small adult mouse evey 5 days. Is this ok or do I need to change at all? Thanks.

it is so individualistic with snakes (like people). The rule of thumb is...if they continue to have good body weight then the amount is right. From what you say I would have no problem with those amounts.

For example. I have a Wagners Viper (Vipera wagneri) female that is about 2'in length. She eats 1 rat pink every two weeks and maintains excellent body weight.

My Baja rat (Bogertophis rosalie) that is the same size eats one fuzzy mouse.

My three foot FWC eats 2-3 small adult rats (in the same time period)and begs for more.

Frank, I'm so glad you said that. I was afraid you were going to give the text book,"every ten days". like Frank says, just get to know your snakes. Know everything about them, and you will know how much and how often to feed them. Sounds to me like your doing fine. Chris
