Dusting mealworms

tazz10 May 17, 2004 01:03 AM

My gecko mainly eats mealworms and a few kingworms (he doesn't even look at crickets since he tried mealies) but calcium doesn't stick to the mealies. Is there a secret to make it stick?
I leave a dish of calcium in the tank and I know that he licks some from time to time, will that be enough?

If he's lapping up the calcium from his dish, then he should be okay.

As for dusting the mealworms.. Try getting a sandwich bag, put some calcium in there, and then put the mealworms in there. Shake it all around (Shake 'N Bake!) until they're all covered with Calcium. I can't imagine why it wouldn't stick to them.. I've never had that problem!

I've had the same problem before. I just put a layer of dust on the bottom of the dish I put them in, then hold it close to a heat lamp to get them warm and moving. They wiggle enough to get a good coat on themselves, and since they're in the dish already, it stays put pretty well.
