Hypo Snow project....

Mike H. May 17, 2004 10:52 AM

This project is coming along nicely. The male is Hypo, het for Snow and the female is Snow, het for hypo. She's full of eggs and had her pre-lay shed about 3 days ago (this pic was taken about a month ago)

Well, the clutch should include snows, ghosts, anerys, amels, hypos, and normals, with with each baby being het for various traits. 25% should be snows, 1/2 of those snows should be hypo snows. Hypo snows are awesome and are the reason I started this project to begin with. Check the link below to see a great looking hypo snow that Don Soderberg has on his site. It was this photo that created my desire to produce some of my own.

There is more going with that snake then just a Snow Hypo Combo. In Boa breeding Hypos x Albino/snow would make for a "SunGlow Albino or Snow" but the Hypo gene there is much different and also effects pattern as well as color. Just breeding a Hypo het for snow X A Snow Het for Hypo will get you more snows that carry the Hypo gene but it can not be seen because of the Amel gene overtaken/powering it. I have bred Hypos and snows together for many years/generations and never came close to what Don posted there, they look just like snow corns. Don must have some sort of secret ingerdiant in that mix (maybe Blood red or Crimson pushing through)
Sorry

How long did you keep the babies? Don says it takes sometimes six months before you can easily distinguish the hypo snow hatchlings from the regular snow hatchlings.

I think you both may be right. I have a feeling that not every hypo snow will be outstanding, however, I don't believe that the albinism with overshadow the hypo.

This snake is a hypo snow (was not produced by Don) and doesn't have any other background in it than hypo, amel, and anery. It may not equal the best of Don's examples, but I think it shows something that Mike may get.

And by the way, he did look like a normal snow as a hatchling, possibly a bit more pink, but pretty normal.

He looks a lot more "coral" in person too. I just can't seem to get a good pic of him (or my ghost). I guess I need to do some major photo shoots this summer in natural light.
