terrible_one May 17, 2004 11:37 AM

Is this a good gutload for Mealworms and Crickets? Just put some ornage cubes with the cirkcets and some orange cubes and oatmeal for the mealies? It says it has everything they need to feed your reptile..what do you guys think of this? I was going to start using for my baby Leo

they also need food, if they dont the crickets will be extremely low in protein, fat, and fiber.

But it is like 98% water, nothing that is 98% water will gutload any feeder properly. It is fine as a water source, but as a main food source for the feeders it is useless.

on it for over a week before without more than one or two deaths...if it wasn't a decent food source they'd be dead in that time.

just cuz it provides food doesn't mean it should be used for gutloading. Humans can survive off of a diet of 95% (i am pretty sure orange cube is 98) moisture and 4% actual food. all i am saying is that if your crickets is eating only somthing that is 95% water then it won't be gutloaded with vitamins and will be protein and fat deficient. Of all the moist gutloading "foods" the only one i found that was less than 95% water was nature zone mouse total bites, and that was like 94%. Just because its labeled as a "food" doesn't mean it should be used for anything else than watering seeing as how that is pretty much what it is. also the amount of vitamins and minerals that are actually in it are so minimal that they really dont intake that much.

Actually I thought he was using the T-Rex Sandfire ICB dust to dust the crickets...which he's not...so the orange cube stuff probably isn't best... I'm using the icb dust, which is an entire food in itself, so I'm not too worried about just how vitamin/mineral/protein rich my crickets are, so long as they're alive.
