Blister Disease??

cttaylo May 17, 2004 12:24 PM

My seven year old female BRB seems to have acquired a blister disease. Housing / environment has not changed yet her belly scales have developed rough, deteriorated brown edges. She has always spent most days / nights in a moss-filled plastic, high humidity hide box. Do I need to treat medcically? Thanks in advance.

Craig,
. My guess would be that the Ph of the moss is too low. It could have been too low originally or it could be too low now from being urinated on. These snakes pass a lot more liquid urine than other snakes. Whether it needs medical treatment depends upon how serious it is. Most minor skin problems clear up after a shed or two if kept on very clean damp newspaper substrate. My second longshot guess is that the problem is a fungus which may also be substrate related. One of the OTC fungal/jock itch ointments might work if this is the problem.
Good Luck,
Jeff
