why would a non-gravid female be digging so much??

geckogrl6 May 17, 2004 01:19 PM

I have three females in a terrarium tank. One has been dropping eggs, one is too old (but I bred anyway, wishful thinking) And the other keeps digging! A lot! Is this b/c she hears the cicadas outside and wants a taste? lol Is she telling me she sees the eggs coming and wants to join in? Help! She will take a drink when I fill the bowl, and then fill it up with substrate as soon as she's done. I'm afraid the breeding female won't get enough to drink.

Hello there,

Although females can act a bit weird once in a while, digging is definetely a sign of being gravid. Check on her, she might be gravid...

This female has NEVER been with a male, I've raised her from a hatchling. So either one of the other girls transferred her some (not) or perhaps she's having a sympathetic pregnancy. I guess I'll put in a extra lay box for her and see what (if anything) happens. I also just put in a new live plant, which is kinda the spot where she's been doing all thje digging. Maybe she don't like it?
