Possible complications of an enlarged gall bladder?

abstractcypher May 17, 2004 03:10 PM

Would an enlarged gall bladder cause health problems in a snake? Reticulated Python to be exact.

Initially she was brought to the vet for what seemed like a URI but the vet doesn't see anything that supports that theory.
Three weeks ago she had an endoscopy done and everything looked "perfect"per the vet). That's when they realized her gall bladder was enlarged.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Raymond

Sounds like you should be talking to your vet, not us, has he/she knows the case best.
An enlarged gallbladder itself isn't usually a problem, it just stores bile before being excreted into the intestine. The problem will rest with "why" is the gall bladder enlarged.

Gall bladders can get blocked when coccidia and worms migrate to the liver and blocked the bile ducts, this in turn creates a back up of bile and enlargment of the the gall bladder. another thing to get is from a blood panel the bilirubins level.
