Over Feeding.

RoyC May 17, 2004 05:12 PM

Is it possible to over feed my turtle vegetables? I give him as much romaine lettuce he will eat and 3 reptomin baby pellets or peas each day.

Also, should I be letting him roam around my room for an hour or so each day? Should I take him outside?

One more thing, my cousin's turtle has just recently started to develop those little, glossy, white spots like mine. He said that they started appearing after he let his turtle bask in direct sunlight in his back yard. Does anyone know why this is? Thanks.

You can't overfeed them with veggies, but the ones you are giving him aren't the best. Try mustard greens, dandelions, collards or anacharis, lettuce is mostly just water. There is no reason to let them roam in your room, taking him outside for some sun isnt a bad idea.

is it possible to underfeed? i bought a bunch of plants at petsmart(not sure of their names though) and i'm thinking that i'll give pellets every other day now. i was doing it everyday. and the turtle is constantly asking for food. i just dont know how much to feed. and i feel as though i'm starving her.

thanks

You can't really underfeed a turtle, mine get protein maybe twice a week, and veggies everyday. If the turtles eat the aquatic plants they will be fine. You should find out what you bought though, anacharis is good and looks kinda feathery. Mine never really ate broadleaf aquatic plants, but they eat all sorts of greens. They are really good beggers, but don't give in, they are opportunistic eaters and will overeat if allowed to.
