FORCE FEDDING QUESTION

beardiegirl May 17, 2004 05:28 PM

Does anyone know how much to feed your baby when you have to feed through syrenge?

I have a baby that is 3 mos old and I am haivng to feed her a mixture of baby foods, greens and vitamins cause she wont eat. Is there a certain amount she should be getting and how often should I feed? Thanks in advance.

Has this baby been checked for parasites? That is the biggest reason for not wanting to eat.

You sound like you are feeding her right, meat baby food, vegetable baby food and vitamins. Try and get her to eat on her own first. Put a little on the tip of her snout and wait a minute she should eat it off on her own. At that age, depending on how much she has grown, I would give her about 2cc, twice a day. Try to get her to eat on her own first, force feeding can be too dangerous when they are that little.

Well yeah she eats on her own...i put it on her nose and she licks it up. Then I just put more in her mouth. What I mean is why, and how long do I have to do this before she will eat veggies and bugs on her own?

Beardies don't do this for no reason. Like previously posted have you had it checked for parasites?

What is your setup like?

Temps?

Substrate?

Lighting?

Giving this info will help to find out what is causing this problem. To be blunt about it there's a good chance you're doing something wrong with the husbandry. Wether it's intentional or not doesn't matter, just find out what it is. Hope that wasn't too harsh but you failed to answer about the parasites so I thought maybe something needed to get your attention here.

Oh yeah, FYI, I had to hand feed my beardie for at least a month because he had Coccidia and wouldn't eat on his own. I fixed that and now he eats like a pig!

I hope everything goes well with your beardie.
