Superworm Question.......

SpikeNSquirt May 17, 2004 09:07 PM

Ok I am sure this has been discussed before, but bear with me. I am considering purchasing some superworms for my larger leos, and I have "heard" that they can eat their way out of a leo. Is this true? A guy at a pet store once told me that you need to crush the superworm's head before you feed them to your lizards. My big male won't even look at a mealie that isn't moving, and I would imagine a superworm with a crushed head wouldn't move. Those who have experience with superworms, I ask you this...how do you feed them?
Thanks
Tony

I have heard stories of mealworms eating their way out, so I would imagine that it is possible for a superworm to do the same. Since superworms are so much more powerful, and seem to have a stronger bite they could probably eat their way out easier than a mealworm as well. However, It's probably a one in a billion risk so I wouldn't worry too much about it. I know the sheer thought of it gives me shivers as well though.

that mealies or supers can do it...Usually they are killed "on their way in", and if that doesn't do them in, the acids in the leos stomach would very quickly kill them before they could do any damage.

Good to hear. I've always worried a little about it happening. I'm sure someone on this site said it happened to them or someone they are close to.
