New Giant Tremper Albino missing toes!!!!!!!!!!

SpikeNSquirt May 17, 2004 09:16 PM

As I posted on friday we received a giant tremper yellow phase male and a giant het for albino female. We purchased them from Ron Tremper himself. The male is about 4 inches or so, and I resisted the urge to hold him until tonight. As I held him and got a good look at him, I noticed all of the toes on his right front foot are partially missing!!!! I am not nitpicking, but after paying $100.00 for a leo should I be upset? This is my first substantial purchase of a leo (Petco prices are much lower obviuosly)and we bought the pair to breed them. I know that the missing toes won't really affect him, but shucks I am kinda bummed. I wouldn't want a refund, or a replacement by any means, but should I complain? Am I over-reacting?
Anyone's input would be appreciated.
Thanks
Tony

I would mention it for sure. From what I've heard Ron seems like a pretty good guy. If he had noticed the missing digits he should have said something before selling.

I think you should have been told. That happened to me before (not from Ron)and it was a little disapointing just cause I didn't know. Had I known I wouldn't really have cared I don't think and probably would have got him anyway but I just wasn't expecting it.

a shed so bad it had built up and caused the tissue to go nectrotic... he or one of his helpers had to have known at one time or another.. if you paid for a healthy gecko you should have gotten a healthy gecko (not saying its not healthy) with all its digits. $100 or not... i have a super hypo baldie here that got a bad bad shed and lost some toes... now while this gecko is fine to breed (and her toes are healed) and whatnot morally i can not sell this animal..... so i am giver her to some friends... i could have gotten at least 100 for her with missing toes and all but morally selling a gecko with a problem even cosmetic , to me is not right

Hey Robin, is that the little girl that geckobarn or misswisdom (I can't remember which one) has? I've seen her in the photo gallery, she is another beauty. Btw, have you sold that little guy you had posted on fauna yet? the baby circle back.

misswindom May 18, 2004 07:23 AM

Yeah, that'd be her. But we don't have her yet - our schedules keep conflicting lol But we're waiting impatiently because she is BEAUTIFUL

She it so cute. She looks like she may be a sibling of the little guy I want. The one on her site with the circle back. If only I wasn't in Canada, shipping that little guy would cost me an arm and a leg. If you remember I've also been having too many problems with getting things shipped, grrrrr.

yeah i took a new pic of her today she is very pretty but like i said she had a bad shed which i didnt catch and she lost some of her toes. morally i felt i could not sell this animal so dusty and crystal being right down the road and great customers as well as friends and they take care of their animals flawlessly and love them like i love my babies, i offered her to them. sooner or later we will get the scheduling right and be able to get her to them. but since i do not drive and my husband is currently working two jobs its kinda hard... and no he hasnt sold yet.. i dont know why he is gorgeous.. maybe the market? i think its a VERY fair price but oh well time will tell..

If the shipping wouldn't end up costing me an arm and a leg I would buy him. Shipping up here is insane. Even for my little guys coming from Ontario (shiped Air Canada) the shipping would have cost $120. Luckily my mom worked at Air Canada so I got a deal.

Thats sucks! Was this a petco gecko? Oh no wait this was directly from the Breeder!

GoldenGateGeckos May 18, 2004 10:46 AM

I think you should be upset, and you need tell Ron that you are! Although missing toes has nothing to do with the overall quality of the gecko, nor is it a hereditary problem, it should have been disclosed prior to shipping to you! As a breeder myself, I would certainly disclose that kind of problem to any potential customer.

Last year, I spent over $300 on a reverse striped albino male, and he arrived with more than half of his toes missing. I notified Ron right away, and although I was thrilled with the gecko (he was just what I was looking for!), I was still very shocked and disappointed that I had spent quite a bit of money on the gecko from a world-famous breeder and it only had a few toes.

I know it is very hard with little hatchlings to make sure they get ALL the skin off their tiny little toes and tips of tails... even under the best of conditions. I had a beautiful little striped female that didn't get the skin off her tail and it started to cut off the circulation, so I carefully tried to get the skin off only to have her drop her tail completely from being so stressed out. I was devastated, but things like this can happen...

My wife called and left a message for Ron Tremper today. I am curious to what his response might be. I guess I would just like to have been notified prior to shipment that it was missing the toes. No big deal really, he is adorable with or without toes.
