Breeding question (lol again, i know, last one! i promise!)

dmlove Jun 17, 2003 09:38 AM

Well as some of you know, i tried to breed my 2 beardies the other day. They just wouldnt take, they tried, mounted, both displayed, Ralph grabbed Cheech's neck scruff, but then she kinda pulled away, and then waved again and he mounted again and it started over. I was a bit confused, as this happened several times. Maybe Cheech is just inexperienced? because Ralph has done this before, a while back. Well anyways...Cheech lives at my cousins house, and we were gonna breed them together and take care of the babies and when the time is right sell them and all...and when they didnt breed it kinda put us down, and im confused as if we should try breeding lke this again, or maybe he lends me Cheech and i put her in Ralph's cage for a week or so. Im just curious as of what i should do. Thanks all

A very confused David.

My pair did what you explained many times. In fact, I had never witnessed an actual mating until after she laid her first clutch. They had snuck one in when I wasn't looking.
Perhaps she isn't ready, or maybe he just hasn't gotten it down yet, or "up" LOL.

If you are set on having them mate then keep letting them go at it. But don't under estimate the labor taking care of babies involves. Also, don't plan on just one clutch from one mating. My pair laid 5 clutches from the last mating, 3 of them are still cooking. It is work & money, something you really need to weigh out.
Just think,, all the cages, lighting, food, vitamins, Vet visits for the inevitable few who have problems, etc. It does add up.

Good luck.

Just keep trying

lol My Beardies did the same thing the first 5 or 6 times I introduced them b4 they finally bred!!

Just keep introduceing them and eventually, when they're ready they'll probably breed

Good luck and keep us posted!!
