Rock Python nose rub problem...

BrentB May 17, 2004 11:00 PM

My little Rock python had nose rub when i got him, and im keeping neosporin on it. Should the humidity be higher, or lower in a time like this?

Nose rubbing is usually a sign that something isn't right in the animal's environment. Assuming you have corrected the problem and the snake is no longer rubbing, just keep applying neosporin to the affected area. After a shed or two, the snake should be as good as new. As far as humidity goes, I would go with a middle of the road approach; perhaps something in the 60% range. Optimal humidity is fine as long as you aren't sacrificing good air flow; otherwise, harmful bacteria can fester. Hope this helps. Rob

Ok thanks. What kind of substrate is reccomended for a time like this?

I would go with newspaper for the time being (heck, I would go with newspaper permanently....best stuff there is). Rob

I've tried to change the environment but my snake rubs all the time. There's nothing in there for him to get hurt on but Im not sure what to do.

His cage usually stays around 85 on one side and 80 on the other. I use wood shavings as substrate, the humidity stays around 65%. I have no hide box but his new cage has a large one. I also have no soak dish but his new cage has a 14 gallon tub. I have alot going on right now so it's taking a long time to finish the new cage. Frustating!
