strange worms in the water

jensinger May 18, 2004 01:22 PM

Today is May 18, Tuesday. The last time I cleaned and refilled my geckos water bowls was Friday, May 14, before leaving town. Since then, half the water has evaporated, so I pulled the bowl out to clean/refill it. Much to my dismay, I found four black worms squirming around in the water. I've never encountered anything like it. I've had my geckos for several months and have never seen them before. I don't know if they came from the geckos or if maybe they're some sort of larvae of some sort of fly. I think there's a good possibility that they're some sort of larvae because their tails stay at the surface of the water sometimes, much like mosquito larvae, but that's definitely not what they are. I've attached a picture below...
Anyone have any idea? Thanks in advance.

They do look like planarians if you want to find out what they are pour them in a glass and drop in a piece of egg and piece of lettuce and see if it eats it.The reason I say egg and lettuce is because I don't know whether they are carnivores or herbivores.

and eat any decaying matter they can find...I think they prefer "animal products"...lol Some people have problems with them infesting thier fish tanks...I think its just a cosmetic issue though, because they're actually good for the health of the tank.
