Worms?

MistaMasta May 18, 2004 03:13 PM

Can anyone who's lizard has had worms (or anyone who is knowledgable on the subject) tell me what to look for? I've read that you should always worm a Uro right after you bring it home from the pet store, but I've also read that you shouldn't give them meds unless you're sure you need too b/c it can be stressful on their bodies.I've had a Mali for a week now and sometimes her feces looks weird. Most of the time its normal but every once in a while it looks almost white and squiggly. She definately isn't lethargic, she eats well, she's the right weight, and passes food regularly. I never see anything moving in the feces. I've never had a Mali before so I don't know what their feces is supposed to look like. I've searched the web and I can't find any pictures of parasitic worms. I'm not even sure what the most common kind of worms reptiles get are. Any help or advice at all is extremely appreciated. Thanx.

I can't speak to the white and squiggly-ness, might just be urates. But, I think you should have a fecal test done- costs like 20 dollars at any vet. If there is something wrong, you'll probably have to have the animal seen by the vet in order to get the meds.

When i got my first uro, he had hookworms. But he had NO SYMPTOMS what-so-ever. He ate well, was active and appeared well-hydrated and normal. His feces also looked fine from teh outside, but considering how unexperienced I was at the time, i can't say if I recall seeing anything funny on the inside.
