ITS TIME TO LEAVE IRAQ................................................

Fred Albury May 18, 2004 03:35 PM

Lets face some stark harsh Realities: The U.S has just lost its last remaining pathetic rationale for the misbegotten invasion or Iraq.

Lets examine it, shall we?

a) The WMD's are missing

b)The Nuclear weapons NEVER existed

c)The tie between Saddam and 9/11 isnt mentioned anymore, but thanks to the medias slavish channeling of white house propoganda, 70 percent of americans will wake up tomorrow beleiving him Osama's best friend.

d)The rescue of the Iraq people from Tyranny and brutality has turned into YET another fantasy.

HISTORICALLY military occupations of Third World countries has proven that they bring neither democracy nor security to its populace. President Bush commented recently of the Iraqis"Its going to take a while for them to understand what FREEDOM is all about" Well, they do now, they equate Democracy with Bloodshed.

Presidential candidates, both Bush and Kerry have stated that we should "Stay the course". Bush has clearly defined that our "reputation" is imperiled should we leave, that we mustn't "Cut and run"

We did the exact same thing in Nam', when many of us called for the immediate withdrawl of troops.Which fell on deaf ears(And dumb minds) The end result? The result of "staying the course" was 58,000 Americans and several million Vietnamese dead

The only reasonable rationals for keeping our troops there is that things will become horribly worse if we leave. In Nam' we were promised a bloodbath if we left. That didnt happen. We were told that if we didnt drop a bomb on Hiroshima, we would have to commit troops and invade Japan, and huge numbers of dead U.S. personnel would follow. We NOW know and knew even then that this wasnt true.

Bottem line: No one really knows what will happen if the United States withdraws at this point. We can either stay and face the almost certainty of mayhem and utter chaos if we stay or leave and face the uncertainty of what will follow if we leave.

An exit strategy is what is needed.Bush doesnt have one. Kerry doesnt either(allthough there is more promise for him than Bush)

After our destruction of Iraq, through not ONE but TWO invasions, after the death of perhaps a million persons due to these invasions and TEN YEARS OF SANCTIONS against the IRAQ people(Yes you Clinton haters, it was on his shift also) the LAST thing we should be doing is trying any leading role in the future of that country.

This administration has done everything it can to portray Abu Ghraib as , in Rumsfelds words"an exceptional isolated case" That seems very unlikely. There have been many more cases of unlawfull detention, torture and abuse and yes even deaths reported to human rights groups. And this doesnt take into account the reports of women who were D.

All these things and more serve to alienate, and even further alienate,Iraquis who had hoped that this invasion would bring about Democracy and an end to Secular rule and Islamic rule.

It is past time to leave. And we are paying to high a price for staying. Both us...and the cotzens of IRAQ.

sincerely,

Fred Albury

This war has tarnished our image world wide as a peace keeping and democratic nation. You may find favorable words here at home, where people tend to swallow what the media and papers FEED THEM, but you would be hard pressed to find favorable opinion about the United States in other countries. Even jolly old England, our ALLIE in this misbegotten war, has rebuked our invasion of Iraq. Witness the Tens of thousands of Englands citzens pouring into the streets to protest it, as was also in Germany.....Austria.....the U.K. and even Mexico.

This country cloaks itself in the role of good samaritan and saviour of oppressed peoples world wide. Meanwhile we IGNORE our domestic issues,i.e. health care for VETS that have allready fought for this country and given their bodies and minds that we would" win" now faced with reduced benefits. And the homeless, and the housing crisis and the gasoline which continues to rise.

In other words, we dont take care of our own. Or at least this current government and administration doesnt.Even the military is undepaid..and woefully at that. Pathetic, military wives lining up for FOOD STAMPS to feed their families. And hopeing that they get them.

Our image world wide is one of manevolence and humanitarian aide.
The truth bespeaks one of colonialism and tion of natural resources and of installing governments and military bases where they need not be.

Leaving Iraq is essential.

Leaving soon is prudent.

Staying is foolish

I blame this on the administration that is asking for even more money for tHIS WAR. NOT MONEY TO GO TO MILITARY WIVES, mind you, but money for continued occupationa and blodshed.

Sincerely,

Fred Albury

I couldn't disagree more. The US, rightly or wrongly, made the decision to invade Iraq. It wiped out the country's infrastructure and has basically made a bloody mess there. It now has the obligation to put things right before it leaves. That might entail spending billions of dollars and losing more lives. So be it. The US wanted Saddam out, well these are the costs involved with accomplishing that.

Here is how I view the it.

Aside from all the lies that lead us to this war, we are currently fighting under the democracy banner.

But the problem is, You cant "MAKE" some one want democracy.

You cant "Force" democracy on a people, and not expect them to snap under the pressure.

If a Country overwhelmingly wants democracy, then its population will rise, and overthrow the current leader.

Its not our place, to pick and choose what peoples deserve democracy, and what peoples dont.

Take our SUPER BEST FRIENDS, Saudi Arabia. Their about as democratic, as North Korea. They have one of the worst track records in human rights violations. Yet where not cramming democracy down their throats are we? Hmm I wonder why?

Iraq trumps America 10 times as far as human history, and civilization. Dont you think if they wanted democracy, They woulda stood up for it by now? Hell they have only been around 1000's of years..

Iraq is a lose/lose situation

Well except for the SCUM WHO ARE PROFITING OF OF IT. *cough* cheney *cough* bush's. etc etc..

“If a Country overwhelmingly wants democracy, then its population will rise, and overthrow the current leader”

That’s not what happened in Japan. It took the total defeat of that country and it’s reconstruction to install a real democracy.

You can talk all you want to about Saudi Arabia, North Korea et al. We didn’t invade them did we?

Everyone was so gung ho to invade initially. Then when it started to become apparent that this was not going to be a quick easy war, they all started to scream about getting out.
We’ve made a commitment by invading, we have to stay the course now.

>>That’s not what happened in Japan. It took the total defeat of that country and it’s reconstruction to install a real democracy.

But we had to drop 2 atomic bombs. Again FORCED DEMOCRACY!

>>You can talk all you want to about Saudi Arabia, North Korea et al. We didn’t invade them did we?

Nope, and thats why Bush's war on terror, IS A JOKE!!

>>Everyone was so gung ho to invade initially.

Speak for yourself. Afghanistan maybe, BUT NOT IRAQ.

>> Then when it started to become apparent that this was not going to be a quick easy war, they all started to scream about getting out.

No, people knew this was not gonna be easy, their screaming, because of the lies to bring us to this point!

>>We’ve made a commitment by invading, we have to stay the course now.

Thats an easy decision to make if you dont have any loved ones in the line of fire. It wont be the kids of the politicians who have to clean up this mess... possibly with their lives....

As Sobek said earlier, it is REALLY easy to commit other people to do your fighting. Those who have lost family members in this war probably dont all share that sentiment.

And frankly, I was one of the ones screaming at the BEGINNING of this mellee that we shouldnt be there, not at the end because it went "Bad"...It ws always bad....OCCUPATION ALWAYS IS.
Just ask Israel...after bulldozing parts of the Gaza strip...pushing Palestinians out of their homes..only to
suffer their own citzens being blown up at a minutes notice, and then repeating the whole darn thing all over again.

But...."We MUST stay the course"Bush Jr.)

A "Thousand points of light" (Daddy Bush)

Just be glad its not YOU who is there.

Fred Albury

P.S.
Bring the troops home now.
