I recently read an article about large pythons in the florida everglades and the writer said the HSUS was an animal welfare group. As far as im concerned they are more harmful to animals than bad owners. Also in the article it talks about burms being dumped by owners, i would not be surprised if many of the burms were stolen from pet stores and released into the wild.
