Bright Orange stains...??

fadetolemons May 18, 2004 03:59 PM

In my leos' cage I have a tupperware container with moist papertowels in it, and often when i go to change the towels, i notice bright orange "stains" on the paper towels. It's like the same color as the "carrot tail" on some leos to give you some insight as to what it looks like, just some little markings here and there. I have no clue what it is, anyone know?

I don't know if this will help but I've noticed this too.. I use a vitamin/mineral supp. called Herptivite.. It has little granules of beta carotene in it to help avoid Vitamin A overdose... I've noticed that some of granules actually stain my paper towels as well. I think its because the little gex constantly walking into the water dish, and when the beta carotene 'grains' get water on them, they start to bleed onto whatever surface they're sitting on..

Hope this helped.

Does the white powder turn orange after coming in contact with water? because any vitamin supplements i use are all white or off-white

Actually, the Herptivite is kind of a brown powder... The beta carotene crystals are carrotish in color.. As far as changing the color of the powder around it, it does change the color, but not to that point that you'd see it like it was bright as day... More or less the layer that is directly below it. But when it's on paper towel, I've noticed that the crystals kind of leave an orange streak or spot in the area where they were after they'd gotten wet.
