Rabbit size

Devilish1182 May 18, 2004 04:50 PM

What is an appropriately sized rabbit for a 10 foot burm that has never taken one before? I'm about to order some from rodentpro and need to know what size to get since I've never dealt with rabbits before and how long does it take them to thaw out in warm water?
Thanks in advance for any help,
Katy

I would start off with about a three to four punders first. I am sure that a ten footer would be able to handle more but it is best to make the transition with a smaller rabbit and once it is comfortable with that then bump up again. I usually either take the rabbit out of the freezer the night before or speed thow it by placing it in hot water for about an hour or so. This way the rabbit is warmer and the snake can focus on it better with its heat pits. Hope this helps, Todd

I'd say it depends on the girth of the snake, not the length. A 10' snake could ideally take a 6 pounder (large) easily if the girth is sufficient. With rabbits, remember that once they are thawed and stretched out, they really arent that big around.
