One quick question.... Can mice eat their food through 1/4" mesh? I know that 1/2" mesh isn't good... I had hoppers hopping around the room once. Too bad for my bother they were at his house

1/4 inch will work fine. I built a rack with it and it is working great.

Yes. 1/4in. mesh is fine for mice.
