Thanks for the advice on switching to F/T....

What's the best/quickest way to kill a mouse/rate?

Co2 is most humane but is better for groups of mice. if your just doing a coupl or trying prekilled then either
A. Whack hard against a edge of table book etc.
B. Grasp mouse head in towel place thumb at base of skull lift up with tail very hard and snappy.
I personally do method B for prekill since only one of my snakes prefers them right now.

Yeah the first couple a times isnt the funnest thing in the world but as long as you just look at them as food like a chicken or cow it helps.

Geez, doesn't ANYONE know how to do it? I am always seeing this and can't believe no one seems to know the easy, humane way. You get a hemostat, hold the mail by the tail in your left hand (reverse for lefties) and hold the end of the hemo crosswise against the base of the skull and push down hard while simultaneously jerking up the mouse by the tail with the left hand. It kills them instantaneously , humanely, the only thing is if you get overzealous you can decapitate them. Its all in the quick upward tug on the tail. Don't be bashing them against tables or any of that other stuff, thats just plain awful.

If you noticed I wrote in option B the same thing you just wrote only without the hemostats not everyone has and uses hemostats you can use your hands just as well. Yes this is the more humane way..and the CO2 method is definitly more humane.

Put it in a pillow case and wack it against the wall. You'll either kill it or stun it enough that it won't be able to fight back.
