Frilled mate

jacsoncham May 18, 2004 10:42 PM

I would like to get a mate for my frilled, its a female, but I want to buy it a little young, one so I can quratine it, and two so it will get more atached to me indvisualy. I was wonder what age/size should I get so it will be ready to breed after quarintine, and what size cage should I put it in.

Thanks

Getting a younger animal is not a bad idea at all. However you MAY want to consider the age of your female. If your talking a 3-4 year old animal, fully grown, I would suggest a young adult male. This way after a proper quarintine you could get right to work.

If you go with a baby your looking at a good year before hes ready to go, and then depending on when you do it you could be talking two seasons.

Males should be no problem to find, the females are the "keepers" soo to speak.

As for a cage I would suggest you go as big as possible for the pair when you breed. As for the quarintine I would suggest the largest rubbermaide tub (like 50 gallons or something in that range) with the lid cut and screen liquid nailed on for a top. This way you have a lightweight easy to clean cage incase you have a parisite problem (or mites) with a new animal.

Hope this helps
