Well weve hit the one month mark for being open, and I must admit Im a bit overwhelmed with whats happening.
Weve allready begun to turn a profit at the store (not much, but promising) and the customers really seem to like the place.
Things are still a bit "thrown together" in my opinion, but I feel like it will be that way forever at this point.
We decided to drop the whole "paid admission" idea, but if nothing else due to lack of time to explain it....lol. Funniest part is that we had another shop open the same week, and hes sure tried to use the "paid admission idea" against me. I hear Im charging 5$ a head to get in, not to mention a few other choice things. Its actually fun to have a bit of competition, it should keep me on my toes. Allthough Im not sure if you can call a guy selling TICK INFESTED BALL PYTHONS as his GRAND OPENING SPECIAL competition, but in this one horse town it is.
Ive allready started getting eggs out of a few different species, and hope to start hatching the first animals from the store within 6 weeks.
Weve had a few growing pains (rodent odor in tennents appartment), scoping for burglarie, ect. However with some effort we feel weve overcome theese problems. Soo far we have had ZERO THEFT, I honestly feel people are soo happy to see a cool herp shop they dont want to ruin it.
However Im not stupid, as such we have installed a close circut security system, and will be expanding on it over time. I also was finnally able to meet the police officer who lives above the store (he just returned from iraq). The first thing he said when I mentioned theft worries was "If I hear anything while your gone, I will come down with my gun". He was also very impressed with the store, and the animals takeing a likeing to the Mellers chameleons.
Too bad Im not going to be posting any boas born at the store this season, but hey its a start. I hope everyone likes the update, I imagine this will be the last one for a few months.
