Giant madagascar hognose finally laid

Daniel J May 18, 2004 11:49 PM

I almost gave up and didn't think my female was gravid, but today she finally laid. Five nice looking eggs.

Daniel,
Did you acquire the female already gravid or did they breed in captivity? If so, wouldn't these be the first captive born Madagascar hognoses?
thanks.

I highly doubt they'd be the first captive born ones. I had a clutch last year too, which was my pair's first. I only got one good egg out the few she had. This year however, it looks a lot better. All five eggs look great.

Here's the sole hatchling from last year, Bob.

I wonder where I heard that madagascar hogs don't breed in captivity. Maybe I just heard they were difficult. Well you must be doing something right! Nice looking snake.

the first c.b.b. maddy giant hogs. There were some awhile back on another form that had bred/hatched babies. Don't remember where though.

We had a local herper up here in WA that hatched all three forms with no issues many times starting back in 1995. He had babies coming out of his ears! While it is not accomplished often, I would attribute it more to the fact that not too many folks even bother to try to put together pairs or groups of these colubrids. But I like 'em! Keep it up!
