Cleaning & sterlizing terra-cotta (clay) hides?

dangerously May 19, 2004 08:00 AM

How should I clean and sterilize my clay (terra-cotta) hides? I'm using planter bases as hides for the snakes, and occasionally the clay gets deficated on. I can rinse it off with water, but I know some seeps deep into the clay. I could bake it in the over at a high temp and that would sterlize it, but it would still have poop & pee in it and stink. How can I sterilize it and make sure it's *clean*?
