I have a question....

SpikeNsquirt May 19, 2004 10:06 AM

My question is...I know they say if a egg gets mold it isn't fertile. Well we had a clutch and one of the eggs got moldy and we cut it open to see what was inside, and it seemed to be like a hard boiled egg. The other egg from that clutch is still in the incubator without mold. It just doesn't look the same as the other that are in there and feels different too. Is it possible to have an egg not me fertile and not get mold on it? I don't want to throw the egg away if there is a chance that it is fertile. It's been incubating since April 15th at 88 degrees. Thanks ahead of time...

Yes, occasionally infertile eggs look ,feel fertile, and they can sit there for a long time without molding. Have you tried candling the egg? If it glows a nice pink color when candled it is most likely fertile, if it glows an ugly yellow color it probably is not. Since it has only been incubating since April 15th I wouldn't worry about it, if it is good it will hatch soon, if not it will eventually mold over.

Thanks for replying...I'm hoping it hatches, but my guess it that it will not. I was suprised when it didn't have mold on it, because it was in the same container as the one that did. I hope it hatches, but if it doesn't it won't suprise me any.
