cascavel May 19, 2004 12:13 PM

I don't know a whole lot about anphibians, snakes are more my forte. thanks to some friendly youngsters, I now have 3 spotted salamanders in my fish tank. does anyone know where i can get a care sheet for these little guys? I'm not even sure what to feed them or how often. I've been giving them cut up earthworms. they seem to like them. by the way, I'm in West Virginia. thanks chris

When you say "fish tank" do you mean an empty aquarium with dirt (OK), or do you mean an aquarium with water and fish? If it has fish, please take out the sals immediately. If they were caught in a pond, it is because they are breeding; under normal circumstances they live on land, not water.

Earthworms are good for them, and you probably need to feed once every few days.

Care will be similar to other Ambystoma species:

Are red earthworms okay for these guys, or will they only eat
night crawlers? Red earthworms are the smaller gardening worm.
