Question on Genetics

zhenchok May 19, 2004 12:44 PM

Hi, I currently have a 100% het albino. My question is, i've noticed all the different albino morphs out there, if I was to breed my 100 het albino to other hets would I get regular albinos, or possibly the other hets? Here is what I mean, I've seen the Double het for Snow,Carmel Albino, and Lavender Albino, so If I bred het to one of those, would I just get albinos? Sorry for the confusion Thanks, Dave.

i'm not sure if anyone has put enough time to proving whether or not albino lines are compatible. hopefully someone here will have more info. I personally have a pair of het albinos & both are from different breeders & blood lines. i'm not positive I'm getting eggs this year but if I do I will be sure to post whether or not I get any albinos out of it & if it's a mix or not. Male is het albino female is het high contrast albino so I have no clue what to expect. i wouldnt expect caramel albino to be compatible with albino but I have never bread caramels so I couldn't say

It's my understanding that the current known albino lines are incompatible with each other. A high contrast albino is really just a normal albino with some better contrast which has probably been line-bred? Caramel and Lavender Albinos are two totally different strains and would not be compatible with each other at all. Somewhat like the way (in leopard geckos) Rainwater/Las Vegas Albinos are totally different from Tremper Albinos. This is just my understanding at least, someone please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks.

is that in regards to normal albinos? I thought all of them more of less started from bob clark. So shouldn't they be compatible in theory.

well i dont know for sure but I'm sure some breeders grabbed their own w/c albinos too.. i don't think ever single albino came from clark's line

that is why I said more or less. I have a clark line male albino and a bell line het female I figured it was nice to keep some fresh genes, I am trying to keep from breeding the same line as much as I can (I will end up keeping is daughters).
