when it rains it pours!

things continue to go well for my snow honduran project: earlier, a big double het female laid 11 good eggs, and then my snow female laid 11 good eggs, my first good snow x snow breeding. This morning i found another of my big double het females laid 15 eggs, all of them apparently good! And I still have several double het females (smaller ones, but nice) yet to lay.

this morning's clutch was especially gratifying because i'd just gotten a couple of disappointing clutches--15 slugs from a big ghost female and a couple clutches from other females with less than optimal fertility. So it was good to see the snow project females sustaining their excellent performance.

(i'd bred the ghost female x my hypo het/albino possible het/anery male, partly to test to see if the male IS het/anery. I won't learn it from that pairing! Fortunately I also bred him x an anery and she laid 9 good eggs, so I should know, once they hatch, whether the male's homozygous hypo double het for albino AND anery or not.

I've been thru bad seasons and good seasons. This kind is better.

peace
terry

It's always good to hear of projects like this doing well. God knows this hobby can be stressful when waiting to see results. My hair is getting greyer by the hour just from waiting on my low end projects to come round! Best of luck with all those eggs. Tom

dbl-het hybino dump 13 sluggs today. That really sucks cause the albinos that come out are awesome and the hypos are pinners?
I will try and dbl-clutch her she is so big.

Anyways,Major congrats on the 15 clutch thats cool.

Was that the Manser double-hets?

shannon brown May 20, 2004 11:16 AM

Yeah,
I got the snakes in early jan and they had only been down two weeks.I put them down another three weeks but I guess it wasn't enough.I should have used my dbl-het hybino male I had here but john said that the pair produced pinner hypos and killer tangerine albinos.
I think I will just breed my very fertile tangerine albino male to her for her second clutch.

...a record size honduran clutch or have you had bigger clutches?

itd might be my record, but i doubt it's a record for hondurans generally. for what it's worth--so no one thinks EVERYthing is that good here--my ghost female laid 15 slugs. So same size clutch, but what a difference! Like shannon, i'll try with her on a second clutch. I noticed a number of my females that underperformed with their first clutches last year laid better clutches the 2nd time around.

Terry, Great work with your snow projects. It sounds like you will be bringing more snows into the world this year than are out there now. If not you are responsible for a larger percentage of them and will be making a lot of people happy with there beauty. Looking forward to your hatching images and other new surprises that may come this year for you.
Kind Regards,
Adam
