Hello all,
maybe you guys can help me out. In my recent field herping jaunts I've found three Alligator Lizards, two males, and a mean old female. They were found within 100 foot radius of one another, but their patterning was completely different.
My question is this: Do alligator lizards have random color genes to result in what I saw in those three I spoke of, or are there just so many of them that your chances of finding individuals from the same clutch or from related clutches are nil? Or another way to phrase it, Are hatchlings from the same clutch going to be all different colors, or do they all have the same color scheme? If you have insights or theories, let me know. I'd be totally interested to find out. Thanks a lot.
