Pet store throwing away eggs

fadetolemons May 19, 2004 03:12 PM

This kind of upset me. Not really that the pet store would do this but yeah, just listen. I went to the store to get some little crickets for my new leos, and the woman was like "man, one of our leopard geckos keeps laying eggs, she layed some today, I would have given them to you to take, but we just threw them away!" and I was all like "Dang!" because that would have been great to take those home.

Our local pet store does the same thing. They told me that if I wanted the eggs to let them know.

I don't understand why they don't keep them and sell them.

At the pet store that I was at, I was told that they don't have incubators and have no plans to get one. So they just throw them away unless someone ask for them.

this should be more advertised...im sure many of us wouldn't mind getting a few eggs....i mean especially if it came from decent blood lines....save us the 50 to however many bucks some of us pay for even a baby...might as well try our luck with free egggs....sheeesh...

unless those females had been exposed to males, the eggs would be infertile. many females produce dud eggs without being exposed to a male. and if they are housing their females with a male, they are putting undue stress on the female's body, if they aren't interested in the eggs. does that make sense?

I have no problem with them doing that. Better do that then have young that are not cared for. I have friends with beardeds and they have no intention of having more than 2, so they also discard the eggs. No sense in creating something that can not be cared for.
