other bug problem

quanno Jun 17, 2003 12:50 PM

I have a very large enclosure housing 3 BDs. right now i am looking at it and it has about 20-30 little flying bugs in it. they kinda look light nats (sp?). they have a yellowish tint if you look closely at their bellies through the glass. they are just everywhere. I cant figure out where tehy are coming from. Im about to stick a vaccuum hose in there and suck the little bastards out.. any other ideas?

What kind of substrate do you use? Any wood in the cage? Maybe it's some thing in the cage that the flys are hatching off of.

Sounds like they could be fruit flies...any fruit in the cage? Sometimes you get fruitflies from where you get your baskets of fruit, they hatch and fly around..and since they like fruit and you feed some to your beardies..could be why the flies are in their tank. It all depends on how small these flies are...you could try vacumming them up but that doesn't mean there won't be more flies in teh cage again till you find the source.

Keep an eye on the tank for a day or two and see if they disappear on their own (or if you get rid of them, see if more show up). There's a chance that it's just some random swarm of bugs that were attracted to the light.
