Snake egg help

SpecKing May 19, 2004 08:05 PM

The 5'6" kingsnake I caught that I assume/assumed was gravid, keeps pooping 2-3 eggs, reptile eggs, not hard bird eggs. When she poops them out theirs lots of water, and a green slimy matter. My question is, do you think these are just other snakes eggs that she ate and has digested ( so far about 8 have been pooped, 2 or 3 at a time , once a week ). Or are these her eggs that she has " aborted " because she didn't want to lay them in captivity ( is that possible ). THANKS

Snakes do not urinate like other animals. Instead they hold the urine and it becomes crystalized into "urates" which are excreted as tubular, chalky white lumps. Commonly this is accompanied with fluid and feces.

I bet that is what you are seeing. The only time I have seen a snake eject an egg here and an egg there over a period of days has been when a Corn Snake of mine was laying unfertilized duds and they are obviously a yellowish color.

yes, they are defiantly eggs, I unrolled them!!, they are all rolled up with nothing in them. I took a toothpick and unrolled several of them , they are the same size as kingsnake eggs, same texture. I'm clueless. I dont have a camera or I would post a picture.

What exactly do you mean, you unrolled them? Kingsnake eggs aren't like burritos or egg rolls. Unfertile (slugs) are like little spongy things, and fertile eggs that go bad are like a sack of leathery shell with goobers and stuff inside. Never thought of eggs as something you "unroll".

How exactly did you unroll them?

I know snake eggs can't be " unrolled ". These eggs came out rolled up, with nothing inside them. looks like you had a flat peice of eggs and tightly rolled it up. I'm thinking the snake ate another snakes eggs ( the snake was wild caught ) and now passing them. It seems like the egg shells would have been digested as well, but the snake pooped only the rolled up eggs shells.

based on what you have described in this and the other posts in this thread, i think your hypothesis that she's defecating the remains of a meal of another snake's eggs is a good bet.
