NEED ADVICE PLEASE

He guys. I had turtles all my life and I would like to have a tortoise now. What is a good beginner's tortoise? So far I think is the redfoot and leopard. Is this ok?

ALso, are tortoise eggs harder to take care of or are they the same as turtle eggs? THANKS!

In terms of adult size, hardiness, price and availability, The Russian Tortoise is probably your best bet. These show up regularly at pet shops and are always available from dealers. They are relatively cold tolerant and usually thrive with good care. The truly small tortoises are very delicate and expensive. Sulcata tortoises are relativly hardy, very personable and inexpensive, but many owners are dismayed by their rapid growth and huge adult size. Leopards are intermediate in size and hardiness and are readily avilable as captive bred animals.

Opps! Forgot the Redfoot you mentioned . These are usually good feeders, relatively hardy for a tropical species and have a large adult size. I had a similar Yellowfoot for many years.

Agreed -

I have both red and yellow foot torts. Just be mindful that humidity is an issue. Especially with the yellowfoots. You need to be sure to have at least a very moist hide box for them and be sure to soak them more frequently than a desert species.
