Parasite questions

sjenkins May 19, 2004 10:23 PM

Have a newly acquired 2 1/2 foot red milk in quaratine. After she deficated took the sample for examination and found what appears to be worms. Opaque looking cylindrical objects, resembling small pieces of monofilament fishing line. I assume this is some sort of parasitic worm. Question is what is the best treatment? Is there anything I can purchase over the counter to save the expense of a vet? Snake will probably be returned to the wild after a few months of study so do not want to invest alot of money into a vet, not to mention would have to drive over an hour to find one that see's snakes (very rural area).
Thanks

Buy Roger Klingenberg's "Understanding Reptile Parasites", Advanced Vivarium Systems, 1993, and you'll get great insight into the diff parasites (photos!), treatements, dosages, etc., and it'll cost you a fraction of the cost of a vet visit (though I recommend those when indicated, too)

s jenkins,

i'd been meaning to google up a source for the parasite book i referred to (in other post in this thread). But today i was at the pet store and they had a copy for half price. ($12.39 reg; $6.20 on sale). I picked it up and will send it to you for that and the cost of mailing it, if you want it. If i haven't heard from you in a few days someone else can buy it. I figured somebody here would want to take advantage of the price break.
