Thayeri Refusing food.

Krazy-K May 19, 2004 11:24 PM

Two weeks now. Temps are right on, Mite free, and Very active, day and night. She has not been brumated. Kept warm all winter.
I don't know why she won't eat. Not in her feed box, or in her house. What to do, WHat to do.
How long untill i need to be worried? Should i try a humid hide box just in case?
Thanx for lookin.

Krazy K,

What age is this Thayeri? Is it usually feeding on pink, fuzzies, or what? Try braining an appropriate sized feeder mouse and cover it along with the snake with a dark colored (non translucent) bowl. This has worked with all of my hatchlings that refuse to eat.
Has it eaten since you have had it?
It is not the female you got from me last year is it?

Email me for some more techniques.

try tossing her a lizard. The thing is, she may never go back to eating mice if you do this. I know wherefrom I speak--a customer at a local herp shop gave me an adult female thayeri who was starving to death. I offered her a sceloperus (fence lizard) and she was off and running.

I gave the snake to my daughter, so now I have to go out and catch lizards all summer (which is not a problem, mind you, my point being that the snake turns her nose up at mice now.)

Regards.

No John, The baby I bought from you is ravenous!! She is awsome.
This is the possibly obese girl i posted a thread about a week or two ago. I wish I knew her age. The best I can give ya is that she has breed in the past. I bought her full grown. I have had nothing but problems with her since I bought her. I got her a few weeks before I picked up that baby of yours.
that will teach me to buy an adult.
Thanks for all the Help.
p.s.- i will post a new pic of your baby.
