For those with both beardies and rankin's, Starmom???

jack7777766 Jun 17, 2003 01:37 PM

Im curently debating on getting a beardie, rankin and collared? So Im looking for experiences and what you think are differences between them besides size.
Can any of these be raised without crix?? wih mealies and something else maybe??
I want it to be a pet most of all, which is the most enjoyable??

Well I have both Beardies and a Rankin (actually a Rankin cross but I call him a Rankin cuz he looks just like one)
I think the only difference I've found between them is their size and cage size...
Personally I'd go with a Bearded (or Rankin) rather than a Collard (because beardys just have sooo much personality!) but Collards are cool too!
Good luck and keep us posted!

Here's a pic of my lil 'Rankin'

I have collareds and beardies, and i'd say your best bet is a beardie. Personality, can eat pellets, and can't run like a collared-they are some FAST little guys

Ditto. I just rescued a collared and have two beardies. I like my beardies better. A collareds diet is mostly insects, they are VERY fast (like perniks813 said) and mine isn't easily handled yet. I feel like I'm going to break him if I hold on too tight, but I can't risk losing him in my house either. They also have a very high metabolism and eat lots of insects.

They are all very unique in their own way and it's good you are trying to figure which one is right for you. Good luck w/your choice and let us know what you get.

Is either one easier or possible to keep healthy without crickets?? Also Ive seen the size of adult beardie poo, not one of its upsides. And I dont suppose the rankin's are sold with anywhere near the variety in coloration beardies are, right?

Thanks
Jack

my critter all eat crix and supers and greens......

delilah will not touch the pellets, will try again.......

as far as the poo goes if you use sand and they go cover it up with alittle sand and it picks up easily with a kitty litter scoop or something like that, once its dry it have very little odor........

How are you?

Alittle background on my experience with these critters.....

Delilah we have had only since last November........She is a love....at first it took alittle time to form the bond with her and gain her trust and love.....she was never nippy or nasty just not sure if she should trust us for awhile, my youngest childs presence didnt help........now she is my love of all!

she is sweet and seeks our attention........she gives you those looks like "I love sitting on your chest looking into your eyes..." or "I was soooooooooo lonely all day, take me out!"
She is pretty mellow most of the time and will just hang out...and can be put on our low, wide windowsill and she will just stay there for a really long time and watch the cars...

The rankin we picked up in April at the white plains show.....
"small fry" is growing nicely, "it" is roughly around 8 inches or so long now.......the rankin is a more skittish dragon so far but it is still quite young and is developing trust, we are not totally there yet (I have heard from others that rankins can be more skittish than an inland dragon)

Our Collard lizard "daniel" my eldest childs lizard we got alittle over a week ago on impulse, he is full grown and probably around a foot long from snout to tail.......

The thing about him is that he is very pretty, is also awake during the day like the dragons, and was very tame from the first moment we met him. collards are very jumpy at times so a large enclosure would be recommended so they can run and jump. his is pretty nice to hold.

Delilah the beardy is the most "doglike" in a way of any of them in terms of a larger size, and how you can hang out with them...

I hope that this helps you decide.....

I have both. My recommendation would be to get a beardie. I just like beardies better. You can feed a beardie without crickets, my rankins is probably going to get them just once or twice a week.
