My female desert iguana has stopped eating and she just keeps sleeping all the time for the last two days. SHe refused her favorite treat wax worms. What could be wrong? Is this what they do before they lay eggs. COuld she be laying eggs after being with the male for 1 month and 4 days? She usually has a huge appetite. Do you think it is something else?

Hi, I have never bred my female, but I do know with other lizards I breed, they do have a decreased appetite a week or so before laying.

The iggys mate in April and May, lay in June and July and babies hatch in Aug and Sept. So She does not have far to go, June is right around the corner.

Since I have not had the experience in breeding mine, I would suggest any questions you have, give dvl a shout, he breeds them, and John Styner does also, both on here.

Scroll down, and click one of their names, to email ! I'm sure they will help you out !

Let us know how she makes out!

This is pretty much normal. Be sure she has a moist, dark area for laying. It is possible she bred before you first witnessed copulation so she may be ready. What happens is the eggs fill the body cavity and there is really no room for food. She may not eat for 2 weeks prior to laying. I will send you a paper for chuckwallas but it pretty much can be used for the dipsos. Good luck and keep us posted. Tom
