What can I put in my tank????

littleturtle1707 Jun 17, 2003 01:48 PM

I have algae growing in my tank all the time, even when I change the water. Can I put some kind of fish ( Placeto, Albino Catfish....) In the tank to eat the algae? Is it safe for the turtle to live with something like that in the tank. Any suggestions would be great. Either here or my email...alexy1278@hotmail.com..........thanks alot..Angel

I believe what you're referring to is a 'plecostomus'. Most other catfish don't eat algae and will just make the tank worse. It seems that people have pretty good luck with plecos and turtles with the exception that sometimes the plecos get eaten. I guess you could also try snails, but they'll probably get eaten pretty quick.
Is your tank in direct sunlight?

I get algae in my tank without direct sunlight. I usually just scrub it with one of those magetic scrubbers. Ive used liquid algae killer for aquariums too without ill effects to my turtles (as far as I know), but that usually just turns the algae brown, then you have to scrub it anyway.
